How to use a BellieBuddie
BellieBuddies are little-weighted, stuffed animals designed to help parents/caregivers learn how to use mindfulness as a tool to help kids combat stress, anxiety and attention issues such as ADHD through the use of diaphragmatic breathing.
Lying down, place your BellieBuddie on your tummy, just above or on your belly button. You should be looking at each other. Take a long, deep breath, concentrating on filling your belly with air. Look at your belly until you see your BellieBuddie start to rise. Watch your BellieBuddie lower as your belly falls. Exhale long and complete. (I recommend counting you breath in the beginning). The in-breath should be equal to the out-breath. Continue to count in and out breathing until you are able to take belly breaths without significant effort. This usually happens in about 3 to 5 breaths. Don’t worry if its taking longer. That’s ok. We all have our own natural rhythm, your job is to find yours.
Look for little shifts in attitude, concentration, clarity, focus, frustration, tension, stress, sleep, and energy levels. (For both the adult and child).
For best results breathe with your BellieBuddie everyday.
